Professor Tangen's Great Gospel Tour

After I recorded a Christmas CD with a country flavor
(Katrina’s Christmas Wish), I know: you thought I’d get it out of my system and stop all this music nonsense. But hearing one of my songs on the radio was just too much fun.

So I teamed up with jazz pianist Mark Davidson. He not only plays, he did the arrangements, and got some of his friends to join in too. You’ve gotta hear Amazing Grace with Kenny G’s percussionist Ron Powell laying down African drum rhythms. On other tracks you’ll hear the trombone of Art Dragon (leader of Disneyland’s Dixieland band) and the drumming of Stevie D (just off his tour with David Crosby). And if you've never heard the Mark Davidson Trio, check out "Sweet Dream" by the trio and LA Jazz Choir.

I called it Professor Tangen’s Great Gospel Tour because it is a short review of American Gospel music. There are “field-hollers” and spirituals, brass bands, Dixieland, Blues, and folk music from across the country. Each song tells a bit of the story of how Gospel music acquired its great diversity and huge popularity.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"For people like me who are praying for a revival of traditional Christian music, this music is - literally - a Godsend.  I was also deeply moved by your original songs; they really spoke to my heart and should be a comfort to others going through times of trial.  And you can quote me on that" -- Harry Cheny, Academy Award winner
