So, how is Katrina doing?

"About the same" is my usual response. Or more to the point "She's not doing well."

Katrina suffers from a disease of unknown origin. This is a disease that I think will eventually be proved to be a virus. It typically has a quick onset (although hints of a problem might have been seen earlier) and has no cure.

Katrina's symptoms include blurred vision, dizziness and balance problems, sensitivity to heat and/or cold, irregular heartbeat, sensitivity to light, sensitivities to noise/sound, odors, chemicals and medications, unrefreshing sleep, low-grade fever or low body temperature, numbness, tingling and/or burning sensations, chills and night sweats, sore throat, tender lymph nodes, muscle pain, multi-joint pain without swelling or redness, headaches, fainting; and muscle twitching. This set of symptoms is typical of the disease. It impacts nearly every part of the autonomic nervous system.

The disease currently goes by the name Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS). This is an unfortunate name because it often trivializes the situation. Fatigue makes it sound like that feeling you have after jogging around the block and the muscles feel tired. CFIDS is more like taking chemo or having the flu all the time. It should be called the Overwhelming Exhaustion Disease Which Makes Your Whole Body Shut Down.
