Adler-Jung
A Brief Description
- Adler, Alfred (1870-1937) was born near Vienna, Austria and died in Aberdeen, Scotland. Born in Vienna, the 2nd of six children. Unhappy childhood; sickly, frail, pampered by parents, jealous of older brother (mother's favorite). Freud's second in command, Adler is best known for the inferiority complex and his emphasis on birth order and compensation. Broke with Freud: sex not motivating force, not stress unconscious.
- Carl Jung (1875-1961) subdivided the unconscious mind (personal unconscious and collective unconscious), proposed 8 personality types, and introduced the concepts of complexes, archetypes, and a multifaceted self (personna, anima-anius and shadow).
